23 Cosmos Space Photos

All photos in this collection are made in the past month and a half and one way or another connected with the cosmos.

Molecular cloud, known as «Cepheus B», glimmers of newborn stars in this picture on August 12, which combines the data observatory «Chandra» and telescope «Spitzer». Formation of stars in the cloud «Cepheus B» is due to radiation from a bright, massive star outside the cloud. (NASA / CXC / JPL-Caltech / PSU / CfA)

Spiral Galaxy NGC 1097 takes unusual twists in this infrared image provided by Space Telescope «Spitzer» July 23. «Eye» in the center of the galaxy - in fact, a huge black hole, surrounded by stars. This galaxy is located 50 million light-years from Earth in the constellation furnace. (NASA / JPL-Caltech / The SINGS Team)

The latest GPS Delta 2 rocket leaves the air force base at Cape Canaveral in Florida on August 17. After the successful launch of the navigation system «NAVSTAR Global Positioning Satellite» Air Force United States plans to disband the first division of space launch operations. Astronomers looking at the night sky during a meteor shower Perseyd observatory near the Bulgarian village of Avren August 12. Perseyd considered the most regular annual rain. (Petar Petrov / AP)

South Korea's first satellite sent into space from the space center of the country on the island on a two-tier rocket Venarodo «Naro». Launching a satellite into orbit on Aug. 25 ended in failure. (KARI / AbacaUSA.com)

In this picture, taken by satellites NASA, spreading plume of smoke from fires in Southern California in the California National Reserve on August 30.

Moon is visible above the Earth's atmosphere in this picture made by a member of the team space shuttle Discovery on August 30. (NASA / Reuters)

Terrain «NASA Opportunity» made this photograph of iron-nickel meteorite called «Block Island» 28 July. Metal stone 60 cm in length located among the sand and soil deposits of Meridiani Planum region on Mars. (NASA / JPL-Caltech)

Smoke plume rising from two forest fires that have emerged from under the control of the Spanish island of La Palma. This photo was taken a satellite of the European Space Agency «Envisat» August 1. Bottom right shows the west coast of Africa. (ESA)

This general view of the sun and all that surrounds it, was made from three angles. Snapshot of the sun itself is made with ultraviolet telescope observatory SOHO. The inner crown was captured by researchers Williams College during the solar eclipse of July 22. Snapshot appearance of the crown was made with a wide-angle spectrometric coronagraph. (Williams College / NASA / ESA)

Image at this given to the station «NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter» and on 12 August, shows the Victoria Crater, which rover «NASA Opportunity» researched more than two Earth years. In a more explicit version of the blurred image, you can see traces of all-terrain vehicle near the left edge of the crater. Sand dunes create a strange pattern on the bottom of the crater. (NASA / JPL / University of Arizona)

«Ping» are not the kind of extraterrestrial life forms, rather, it is covered with mounds of earth ground ice. Geologists suspect that the ping may exist on this polygonal area of Mars, shown in this photo provided by the station NASA. The photograph was published on August 19. (NASA / JPL / University of Arizona)

Full round-infrared image of the planet, made Aug. 17 by using meteorological satellite GOES-14, which shows the tropical storms that meet along the Atlantic Ocean. From left to right you can see the remnants of Tropical Storm Claudette, Tropical Depression Ana and Hurricane Bill. And in the equatorial Pacific Ocean stretching band of scattered storms. (NASA)

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station made this picture of the mountain Hood - the highest point in Oregon - August 5. Bottom left on the mountainside flowing White River. Although the hot springs and a pair of still active on the mountain, volcano itself did not erupted since 1866. (NASA)

Last time the sun behaved quite calmly, but this photo Add a little drama and another dimension in the perception of the nearest stars to us. Red and blue image combines the two images made with a difference at 12 am on August 7 a solar probes NASA. If you look at the picture in the red-blue glasses, the image will have a 3-D effect. (ESA, NASA)

The panoramic camera in a jeep «NASA Opportunity» issued a richly colored image «Block Island» - the largest meteorite ever found on Mars, on August 1. Bottom left you can see components of the ATV. (NASA / JPL-Caltech / Cornell U.)

In this picture dated 27 July, taken by satellites NASA Terra, depicts Russia's North Island in the Arctic covered by glaciers. Barely covered with vegetation of the archipelago known as the New Earth, captured in the shade of white and beige ice. (NASA)

In this photo made with the European Southern Observatory, in the center depicts the star HD 87643 with a nebula of dust and gas, reflecting the starlight. Photograph, published on August 5, was made with a wide-receiver image on a two telescope MPG / ESO in La Force, Chile. (ESO)

In this picture the space clouds, known as RCW 38, depicted young stars surrounded by smoke at about 5 500 light years from the constellation Vela. This photograph, published on August 19, was made using the adaptive optics of the Large Telescope European Southern Observatory. (ESO)

In this photo made orbital station «Cassini», the shadow of Saturn's rings are represented as a narrow strip on the planet on the day of the equinox on August 11. During the equinox the ring turned to the sun and actually disappear from sight. (NASA / JPL / Space Science Institute)

In this photo made at the international space station on Aug. 30, shows the shuttle's open cargo bay «Discovery» with built-Italian cargo vehicle «Leonardo». (NASA / Reuters

Infrared image from the telescope in Hawaii, North Twin, released on August 12, shows the planet Saturn with its largest moon, Titan. Saturn's rings, which are usually not visible from Earth telescopes can be seen in this picture. Colors in this image, but rather reflect changes in temperature, rather than the normal visible colors. (Gemini Observatory / AURA / Lowell Obs. / Univ. Of Hawaii)

Spacecraft «Discovery» sent from NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 23:59 on August 28 at the international space station. «Discovery», the last ship in a series of night launches of the shuttle, which should return to Earth in 2010. (Gary I Rothstein / EPA)
