The KTM X-Bow is a vehicle for driving on the street, on the grounds of approval, it still can not be registered in Spain. It has two seats, rear traction, it is lightweight and has a turbocharged engine to 241 hp. At the moment, for the purpose of driving is not required to wear a helmet, although it recommends KTM.
KTM, the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, plans to launch its mass production in mid-2008. From the production of this model will be responsible-Magna Steyr. However, since mid-2007, already supports the X-Bow orders through its website and in the national authorised distributors.
The ex-factory price (PFF) X-Bow is € 45,850. To this must be added the cost of transportation and taxes (value-added tax, registration and customs) to the country of the buyer. Currently, it can only be ordered with autoblocante (which increases the PFF in € 1,680), and in orange or white.
Once manufactured the unit gained, it may be collected at the factory in Austria or in a national authorized distributor, or even receive it at home buyer. If the buyer is owned by a country in which the X-Bow is not approved, could only be used in a closed circuit.
The first hundred units to be constructed will be an exclusive edition of the X-Bow called ‘Dallara. It differs because it has certain details of the body carbon chassis with racing suspension specific autoblocante, tires with a single anchor point and removable steering wheel. All these elements are also available optionally in an independent manner.
The engine is a variant of which has the SEAT Leon Cupra and is placed in rear center position. It is a 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder, direct injection (between 30 and 110 bar), turbocharger and intercooler. Unlike the prototype, has a maximum power of 241 hp at 5,500 rpm, instead of the 220 hp prototype. KTM says that in the future may have versions of this engine with up to 300 hp.
The X-Bow takes 3.9 s to reach 100 kph from standing out. It is therefore a very fast car. Need the same time as a 2-Lotus Eleven (which is a relationship between weight and better power, 256 hp and 670 kg), and only 0.1 s more than a Lamborghini Murcielago (579 hp and 1,650 kg).
The maximum speed is 217 km / h. In the low bodywork there is a rear diffuser which exerts a vertical force of 193 kg at a speed 200 km / h. The maximum lateral acceleration is 1.23 grams, a high value. The gasoline tank has a capacity of 40 l.
The manual gearbox is six relationships (home Volkswagen). In 2009, it may also have an automatic switch to double-clutch S Tronic (DSG).
Regarding the prototype and except for the engine, the production model has minor changes: making the engine cooling is larger and exhaust now is twofold. At the wheel, it has reduced the number of screens and buttons and a screen has been placed in a location closest to the eye. The upholstery of the seats have also been changed.
The X-Bow has no doors or roof. Nor has windshields, only a small deflector transparent (image) to the air, according to KTM, eliminates heating or wipers.
No trunk. To save the documentation there is a transportable box. The elements required to carry in the car, such as triangles or replacement lamps, ranging stored in a compartment under the passenger’s feet, there were also keeps a case to cover the passenger compartment when not using the car. In the area occupied by the passenger’s feet can hold a couple of helmets.
It measures 3,670 mm long, 1,870 mm wide and 1,160 mm high, the battle is 2,430 mm. The chassis is a monocoque carbon fiber, developed in collaboration with the Italian specialist Dallara, which weighs 70 kilograms. The pieces painted orange are also carbon fiber, but later on will be plastic.
In the front area there is a deformable structure to absorb energy on impact; behind, it is the box of silent responsible for developing this feature. The weight of the entire vehicle is 825 kg.
The suspension is double triangle on all the wheels, with the spring and shock ( “WP Suspension”) placed in a position almost horizontal and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the car.
Brembo brakes are 305 mm in diameter and 262 mm in front behind. In each rear wheel brake calipers there are two, one for parking brake. The tyres are varying degrees on each axle, the 205/40 R17 front and the rear 235/40 R18.
The seats may not be fair, but the pedals. Safety belts are four points; optionally can be five.
